Aiden Noah was born 4/2 at 12:22am 8lbs 5 oz, 19 3/4 in long. Aiden is doing wonderful with a NORMAL platelet count.

He was born via c section, my labor wasnt progressing I was stuck at 6cm for over 12 hrs and proceded with the c section. Im happy that both of us are happy and doing great. Once labor started I was given 2 1/2 units of platelets, IVIG, and a large dose of steriods. My counts went from 40 to 92 and I was given my epidural (whoo hoo) after the 12 hrs of no progress we proceded with a section.

So far my counts have held pretty well. I did anotehr round of IVIG following delivery just in case my counts are 66 right now and Im on 60 of prednisone.

Jen!! Great news!! Damn hormones have me tearing up now!! I am just so happy to hear that everyone is well! I know you were hoping to avoid a c-section but really as long as you and baby Aiden are healthy I hope you realize it doesn't matter.

I had a spinal. I had gotten an epidural earlier in the afternoon and becuase of that the c section was done under a spainal. I ended up going under anyway since I freaked out. I was awake until right after the baby was born, and chose to be put under. Im glad I did, due to my platelet the doctors took extra time to make sure I wasnt bleeding and that they hadnt missed anything. It was close to 2 hrs before I left the OR.

So you were sleeping when he came out. Tell me about your experience please. I may be put under general for my c/s and want to know what your experience was. Who was with you and were they allowed in? When did they get to hold the baby? How soon after you came to did you get to hold him? Were you very groggy?
How's nursing going? How do you feel?

Cloyd--its not a problem.

I was awake while he was born. The c section wasnt what I expected. I was in pain from all the pressure of them trying to get him out. He is a big boy 8lb 5 oz. The dr was literally on me trying to push the baby out so the other one could grab him to bring him out and the pressure was hurting me. I was scared--Im not going to lie. The started the c section while my fiance was in the wating room. Once they got close to bring him out my fiance came in. They got him out and the anastesoligst wanted to put me under because I was moving my legs. I begged them not to I wanted to be awake for the birth. They allowed me to and once he was out I heard him cry and the doctors tell me he was healthy --He scored an 9 out of 10 on the scale-- I told them to put me out. The c section took longer then normal since they were making extra sure there was no bleeding. I had minimal blood loss the nurses and drs were all suprised as to how well I handled it. The c section took close to 2 hrs vs the standard 45 mins. I actually woke up in the OR. I kept asking how the baby was and if I could see him. They kept telling me hes in the nursery and is doing really good. Shortly after they finished cleaning me up they took me to recovery. Where they brough the baby to me. It was close to 2 1/2 hrs after the birth that I finally got to hold and see my son. Becuase they gave me ketamine (sp) I wasnt able to nurse for 12 hrs after he was born. Im having a hard time getting him to latch on and have been pumping but he wont drink the breast milk he wants the formula. It makes me sad that he wont drink what Im offering but I plan on speaking to the dr about it and see what he reccomends. My mom was there but was not allowed in the OR with me. Thats the hospital policy only 1 support person in the room. Because I was able to have the epi prior in the day I was able to have the spinal. They did have to dose me twice since I was still able to feel them poking me on the left side.

My counts were 66 upon discharge and I am being monitored but the baby isnt. His platelets were normal on his bloodwork at the hospital and the peditrician doesnt think he will have a problem. But he has a checkup tomorrow and I will discuss it with her tomorrow.

That goodness you are both okay. I wish I could offer you some insight on the breastfeeding issue. That must be frustrating. Any lactation consultant you can speak to? Latching is a learned behavior. I'd say keep trying. Can you mix the formula with breast milk then slowly decrease the formula adding more breast milk till the breast milk takes over? Make sure the pedi checks to be sure he is not "tongue tied".
Thanks for your birth story. I am getting excited to have my little guy. He'll be here soon.

Congratulations Tiger! Well done to you both, love the name! I can't believe it has gone so quick, it just seemed like a few month ago when you found out. Enjoy your new life with the little one, lots of platelets to you both.
