Hi. I am 7 weeks pregnant. This is my third pregnancy. First, I had a miscarriage, then a healthy baby boy, now I am pregnant again. My current count is 50,000. I am praying it stays up so that I can avoid prednisone. I am taking Vitamin C. My Hemo said it is fine to take but he did not tell me how much. Does anyone know how much is safe to take during pregnancy? There is some in my prenatals, and I take an additional 1300 mg. Just want to make sure it is safe for the baby. Thank you.

I just talked with my OB and she said that amount to take is fine because it will just excrete through my urine if I take too much. Sounds good to me!

Thank you!I found through this website that Vitamin C can raise platelets- so far it has helped me, not incredibly but by a few thousand. I also read through this site about a book called Eat Right For Your Type - this book talks about eating based on our blood type and how that can impact us (including our platelets)-I am always looking for natural ideas. Hope this helps you!

Too much Vitamin C can cause diarrhea, so watch out for that.

Vitamin C doesn't hurt, but there are not too many people who have had a credible increase in counts from it.

Sorry to tell everyone but I had a miscarriage.
I found out on Friday with my husband during our 10 week ultrasound-there was no little baby in the sac. They sent me to the hospital for a D and C. They tested my plat. and they were down to 31,000. They would not do a D and C until my count was 50 or higher.
They tried me on 40 Decadron for four days- it brought it up to 46, then it went down to 30 within hours. Then I did 2 days of IVIG and it went up to 67,000. Surgery was yesturday. Home today. This is my second miscarriage. I have one 3 year old child. Miscarriage first, then my son, then this miscarriage. I tested negative for Anti-Phos. Anti-body Syn.- what do people know about IVIG? How often do they give it? Do they give it outpatient? How long will it keep my counts up? Is it safe for pregnancy? Thanks for everything.

I am so very sorry to hear about your miscarriage. What a difficult thing to go through. We miscarried our first and I know how heartbroken you must be.
I have been receiving IVIg weekly since March. It doesn't seem to raise my platelets too much. I am hovering in the 30-60 range for the week following the treatment. I am 32 weeks pregnant and they are hoping to have my counts in the 80-100 range for delivery May 23rd.
My 1st treatment was given in the hospital as outpatient but all the rest have been given to me at home. The 1st dose was VERY heavy 8 hours long the rest have been 3.5 or 5 hours long.
I am no expert on the topic but I do know it is safe for pregnancy. I wish you health :)
