My 9 year old was diagnosed 2 weeks ago. He's been home from school for a little over a week. Yesterday the doctor said he could go back to school but absolutely no activities. I'm just really nervous because his numbers are so low. First count was 5 last week was 2 and yesterday 4. Today before school he brushed his teeth and his gums bled. Doctor wants him to try and fight this off before they start meds and that's ok just worried about him in school. Any advice?

I know you are worried, but many children with ITP attend school with low counts. Does he have bruising? Hopefully he understands his limitations. Be sure that the school is aware of ITP in case of emergency.

Ask doctor to write instruction letter to school. Talk to principle, room teacher and PE teacher about what he cannot do.
4 is quite low, I would not let him do any sports, no activity during recess, and foot on ground (no climbing).
