Platelets dropped while taking Promacta was created by mmcnatt
My child started Promacta in August or September. Was doing great. Got platelets up to 57k a couple weeks ago. Over the holidays, she ran a fever for 3 days. I took her to the doctor (pedi) and she ran a country just to see. Her platelets dropped to 10k. WBCs 17k. Negative for flu, strep, and pneumonia. Maybe just had a bad cold virus.

Is it normal for platelets to drop while on promacta in times of sickness?

Yes, that can happen. She should rebound. What dose is she on?

I've never had Promacta but have tried several treatments . Count always drops if I get a cold.

I'm glad to hear that her counts have been generally good on the medication! I almost always get a drop in counts after any kind of a bug. It's more common that I get a drop than not (the immune system gets all fired up, which means eating up those platelets as well).

I am also on Promacta and don't change my dosages if I get a low count after being sick. I would just wait out the virus and see where she stands when she is healthy again. Hopefully she'll be back up in the target zone after that. Hang in there and good luck.

Update. Her platelets came up to 64k yesterday afternoon. Very thankful for that.
