In remission - nose bleed question though

Good Afternoon,

My daughters platelets have been good (above 100) since December - I just wondered though if anyone noticed that before their child got ill - their nose bled. Everytime she gets sick her nose will bleed for about 3-4 days before. She got sick last week with the flu and she had the nose bleeds and a small rash.

I assume that depending on what her levels are in the weeks before she gets sick will indicate if her levels will drop to concerned areas.... Is this true???? The pediatrician has sent us back to our general practitioner, but he doesn't know alot about ITP. For some reason my mommy radar is indicating we are not done with ITP yet....

The only way you can know what is going on is to have counts done more often and try to 'catch' a low count when it happens. That is hard to do though if counts have been consistent because you could be subjecting her to too many unnecessary CBC's.

My daughter has lots of nose bleeds! Usually 2-8 a week. They seem to be completley independent on where her platlets are. She has chronic itp and we've been battling it for over a year now.

I would suggest charting your child's bleeds and how long they last on a calendar. Then you can see patterns (every 4 weeks my daughter has a increase in bleeds, and when she eats gluten it increases the amount of bleeds she has). You can see if they're related to her immune system with sicknesses ect this way too.

Sometimes nosebleeds have nothing to do with ITP. My niece had horrible nosebleeds that would gush if she even touched her nose, but did not have ITP. She needed to have her nose cauterized. She was fine after that.

My son was placed into remission status last year this month. Not long after being diagnosed with ITP the nosebleeds started. At first they were connected to his counts, if they were low he would bleed. Then as time went on, it stopped being connected. Now that he is in remission he still has nosebleeds. They are unprovoked. They just happen. I don't know if this helped, but this is just what we have experienced.
