My son was dx at the age of 3 with chronic itp, went through 3 yrs of treatments ( very rough for him) went into remmission at age 6. Side effects are horrible headaches we still deal with today. Hes 11 now. His ped doc was very rude today and determined to give him the dtab and menningitus vaccine. We havnt given him anything since he got this ( from the mmr vaccine). What are your thoughts?? We dont want hom to die from tetnus like his doctor put it, but we dont want to trigger his itp either.

It's a tough situation. I was under the impression that a tetanus shot could be given after an injury occurs, so it might be okay to wait until something actually happens. I had a rusty nail go through my arm a few years ago and got the tetanus shot immediately after it happened. I wouldn't have had it otherwise.

You're going to have to make a lot of vaccine decisions. Research them and try to have them spread out instead of given all at once. A simple cold can trigger ITP, so you can't control everything to avoid a relapse no matter how hard you try. Just do what you think is right.
