what illnesses become more critical ? was created by runnershirl
My 3 yr olds best bud has developed hand foot and mouth disease...and while his virus has almost passed, my daughter has been sick with throat related illness for a few days..but despite her fatigue, she persented no fever with the pediatrician. learning today that the friend had hand foot and mouth disease, I researched furhter to learn that some ITP kids may not present the typical "fever" indicator that other kids presnet...So, I wonder if any of your children have had hand foot adn mouth disease, chicken pox or any other illness that could potentially become more serious due to the ITP..and what are they? what do I watch for besides bleeding alone?

As far as I am aware, kids with ITP do get normal fevers. A child on steroids may not get a fever or symptoms of an illness can be masked because steroids are an anti-inflammatory.

Illnesses should not be any more serious in a child with ITP unless they are on immunosuppressants. However, counts can drop with any illness. Some parents report though that their child's counts actually go up during an illness. You never know, it could go either way or not be affected at all.
