Losing my hema...bummed out

I'm so bummed out. I just found out my hema of 4 years is leaving the state. She referred me to someone else. It's in the practice that has the old hema I fired, which stinks - hope I don't run into him.

I'll give this new hema a chance, of course. I'm just so sad. I loved the nurses at this office, the staff and of course my hema - she was very knowledgeable about ITP and she understood how much I hate Prednisone. She was the one who got me on NPlate during my last relapse.

The new hema is supposed to be focused on just hematology not oncology, and on her website it says she's a specialist in anemia (good for me as I have also hemolyticc anemia and B12 anemia) and low platelets, which is good. But I just was very happy with the way things were.

I'm so bummed. But maybe it'll be a good thing. Good hemas are very hard to find, are they not?

I remember that happening to me. Put being bummed out on hold until you see the new one. I thought I had a great hema until my current one and he is great - more up to date on research plus he listens to me rather than talks to me (Iam an adult!!!)
Here's to high platelets! Christine

Jill - I had the same thing happen with my favorite Rheumatologist. He moved across the country. I've had two more since him and this last one is really good, but I still miss #1. It takes some getting used to and you have to start the whole "getting to know each other" all over again. Then you have to break them in. Eventually, you get used to it.

Sorry to hear the news, but maybe this new one will be great!

Well that was strange. The office manager of the hematology practice just called and asked if I would be willing to see another hematologist in the practice instead of being referred out to the new hematologist that my other hema recommended.

I really wasn't prepared for that. (I felt very strange, like I was being disloyal to my hema by not leaving the practice...that's dumb, I know). I just said, "I really don't know what to do." the office manager said, "Well it is very confusing for all of us. Maybe you'd like to see Dr. Ohlokai for one visit and then if you still want to be referred, we'll do it." I was like, ok, fair enough.

So I'll see him and then decide.

This is so weird. I know hema is leaving because the whole office has gotten political when it was purchased by this big hospital, but I don't know if I'd be better off staying or going. Guess it doesn't hurt to make one last visit to this new dr in the old office.

Any thoughts?

I thought it was odd that your hematologist didn't recommend one of her collegues in the office [unless the office was closing down].

You like the nurses there you like the office so personally I'd give Dr.O a change too.
