Well, thanks to something stupid I did when leaving after visiting with mum in the hospital in August, I am on a 50mg dose of pred for the next 5 days! Plus, I am on an anti-inflammatory. One or both of them is kicking my butt right now! Now I remember what it is about the Pred that I hate!

What did you do? Do you taper from the 50 or just stop?

I sprained my hand on a stair railing. I don't like elevators and in order to get to the parking lot, you take one or take stairs. I took the stairs. These ones had a double rail with posts in between and somehow I rammed two of my fingers between a post. It hurt that night, but by the next morning, I couldn't even make a fist, so I told Steven I wanted to go to the hospital. Had an x-ray and turns out it was just sprained. Had it wrapped for a week, but lately it felt like it wasn't getting any better so I mentioned it to our doctor on Friday. As for the pred, it is only til this coming Thursday. And it's only once a day. I was kinda surprised at the dosage. Hopefully, I won't have too much trouble stopping.
Feeling better today!

Prednisone is magic for inflammation! It's too bad they can't create it without the side effects. I hope your hand gets better soon.

I'm known to do awkward things like that too, Cindy!

I hear ya, Sandi! I took my first dose of the pred and pain medication on Sunday, and almost immediately my hand started feeling better. But those side effects! Man, I had forgotten how bad they were! Thank God I only take them once a day!
If there's a crack anywhere on the ground, I'll find it and trip over it! I've even been known to trip over my own feet!

Hooray that it was nothing too serious. I'm glad that your journey into the land of Prednisone will only be a short one. It sure is miserable. Hope your hand is feeling better!

Ouch! Hope your hand is doing lots better!
I recently was put on prednisone at 40mg a day for 5 days for mild bronchitis - no taper since only 5 days. Took it all in the morning.

Mom and Mel,
Hand is definitely better! Pain is mostly gone, now for the puffiness to leave. Even the side effects from the pred are mostly gone. Two more days of that! And I too take it in the morning with breakfast.

Glad to hear you are on the mend and the prednisone effects are mostly gone. I didn't have much problems with the 40mg daily for those 5 days, but towards the end I was quite hungry ;)

Took my last pred this morning! Now to see if it helped the hand!
I didn't get the hunger pains this time around.

Yea off the pred!! Now take care so you don't have to go back on it for any reason!
Hope your hand is back to normal or if not yet then soon.

So far, so good! No issues with the hand. Do have 3 small bruises, one on each wrist and on one of my legs. Don't know where they came from, but I'm not worrying about them.

Hi Mel,
Not too bad. It will be 2 weeks this coming Thursday, (the 23rd) since I took my last pain med and pred. I got through that first weekend pain free. Unfortunately, the pain started coming back last Monday and last night it was really bad. Today, it's not much better. I can do most of the things I couldn't do before doing the 5 days. We see our doctor on Dec. 8, so I guess I'll see how things go between now and then. If it gets too bad, I'll pop down to the emerg department while my mom dozes.
Thanks for asking!

Get in to have that checked if it gets worse, don't wait till the 8th. I'm sorry!
[You don't do elevators - I'm really having trouble now doing up escalators, the higher it goes the more anxious I get. I've never liked heights but this anxious/fear just started this year and it's bad]

Hi Mel.
I'm a stubborn one! I don't like running to the hospital for every little thing! I really have to be in rough shape to go to the ER. Which I did yesterday because the pain in my hand was excruciating! Saw a Nurse Practitioner who recommended seeing a physiotherapist. So I now have an appointment with one on Monday, Dec.4. We'll see what he says and does. All I know is, I want the pain gone!
I don't mind heights, but you'll never see me at the top of our CN Tower in Toronto! It has an outside elevator!
I live in an apartment building on the 5th floor. When I would come visit my parents, I usually took the stairs. But since moving in here, I take the elevator. Don't like it and there have been times when I've pushed the button and panicked at the last minute and taken the stairs. My hubby laughs at me.

Cindy I hope you appointment/s with the physiotherapist went well and your pain, if not gone, has improved to almost gone!!

[and pain like that after a fall isn't a "little thing" :) I would have done more damage to my foot had I thought that - I had a Jones Fracture in my right foot after stepping on a rock hidden by leaves & rolling my foot]

I did go up to the top of the Arch in St. Louis, Missouri - it's an inside elevator but once at the top I couldn't get too close to the windows you look out of.

Hi Mel,
Due to my mom coming home from the hospital and it being Christmas, I postponed my sessions with the physio. I start back up with him next Tuesday. The pain comes and goes, some days are worse than others. I do the exercises that I got the first time I went, and it does seem to help. Depends on what I'm doing.
You're lucky you didn't straight out break your foot. I've twisted my foot doing what you did.
If I could get to the top of a building, I would have no trouble looking out a window. It would be the getting to the top that gets me.
Hope you had a good Christmas!

Cindy I hope the physio can help you, glad to hear you'll be going back on Tuesday!

I did break my foot - the 5th metatarsal - thank heaven the blood flow wasn't interrupted or I would have had to have surgery. As it was I was in a nasty boot thing that went up to my knee for 6 weeks and a handicapped placard for the car - I couldn't drive since it was my right foot.

No for me to look down, except from inside an airplane, I can't handle. An odd quirk that just gets worse as the years pass.

We had a really good Christmas - hope you did too!
