While we were at the beach two weeks ago, my son proposed to his girl friend of 8 years, Carly. They have a great story!

They met in first grade and he was in love with her then. He talked about her all the time and invited her to his birthday parties. She had a long blonde pony tail and I remember her well. We moved out of the school district a year or two later and they lost touch. Years later, when they were both seniors in high school, my son was working at Wendy's and she came in. They recognized each other immediately and began to date. They have been together since.

About a year ago, I was going through old pictures and newspaper clippings. I found my son's birth announcement from the local paper and was shocked to see that Carly's birth was also announced on the same page. Their birthday's are 11 days apart, and even at birth they were linked together on that page.

My son proposed on the beach at a very secluded area of the island. My husband, me and my two daughter's were there to witness it. They walked off by themselves and were fairly far away, but we were still able to see it all.

So now I am immersed in wedding plans. I know I'm not the mother of the bride, but I would like to help with the details and creative end. They are looking at next September and need to find the venue. It's a happy time!

Here are a few pictures:

They are looking at next September and need to find the venue.

Hmmm... Late September... off-season rates... warm water and cool breezes... my favorite time of year at the beach, and a great time for a beach wedding!

Ellen and I said our vows while sea birds hovered over our heads at Figure Eight Island (next island down from Topsail). It was beautiful, even though it was a chilly day in April. September would have been even better.

I love stories of childhood sweethearts getting married. Those two make a beautiful couple.

Joy to you and your family!

Thanks, guys!

Rob, they did consider a destination wedding, but I think they changed their minds. I'm sort of glad because I'd like to see family and friends be able to make it. If they went somewhere else, my Mom wouldn't even be able to attend. That would kill her.

MJ - next year. It would be impossible to book a venue this year! They are already getting filled for next year.

Congratulations!

If you want to help with the wedding say what I said to my daughter-in-law!

Remember I will be your MIL soon that makes us family! So don't forget family helps out with the wedding which means you can call on me anytime!

Worked for me! hehehe

Oh, she knows! She's been my buddy for many years...like another daughter. She's already part of the family. My daughter said something funny to her after they got engaged. She said: "I already think of you as my sister, but I can't wait for my sister to marry my brother!" We all cracked up.

Yeppers my son's wife is much older almost my age but I feel like I've gained another kid! Silly and odd but the more they are together the more they seem to be perfect together!

Have fun and enjoy the preparation!
