I came down with ITP-low platelets end of Oct 2008. Out of the Blue-No Idea what it was and how I got it and still don't have the right answers or a cure. I am on Prednisone and no matter what it is, we will find a Cure, if we do not give up on ourselves and have a positive attitude. I lost my youngest daughter, age 34 to a stage IV invasive Breast Cancer. We have no cure for Cancer and now we have another Disease to Conqer. I am not going to let this get me down. My daughter Judy would want me to fight a winning battle. Judy said "Live everyday to the fullest because you don't know whats around the corner."

Hi Amelia. I'm sorry abuot your daughter.

Most of us found out about ITP the same way - out of the blue. There is no real cause. It's mainly due to a hereditary predisposition that was triggered by something...medication, stress, herbal supplements, illness, etc. There is no known cure. Unfortunately, autoimmune disorders only have treatments at this time.

HI Amelia,
Sorry about your daughter and your loss. Sounds like she was quite a women and you're taking a lesson from her struggle and life with cancer - living life to the fullest, to the end, regardless of circumstances. Even if we never find cure's for these diseases in our life time, one day we'll have cures or reasonable treatments, that allow us to have more productive and quality lives. Good for you to honor her memory and live life to the fullest. Keep it up, because your daughter was right, you never know what might be thrown in your path, which tests your resolve.

Hey Amelia, Great attitude......
My 'out-of-the-blue' diagnosis came after I retired. The family Doc picked up on it when unexplained brusing started. I would be great to have a cure but at the moment, just trying to control it and live with it is sometimes a challange. Compared to other 'acquired' illnesses, I'm thankful it's just ITP.
